Custom Cat Rugs From Your Photo

Cats sit wherever they like. With a custom cat rug, at least they will be sitting on their own face. Send us a photo of your cat and we turn it into a portrait in our hand-drawn art style, printed on a soft, round rug with a non-slip back. Tabby, tuxedo, ginger, fluffy or sleek, the process is the same, and you see a free preview before anything is made. Start your cat's rug here.

This is Alice: the photo her family sent, the design we made from it, and the rug she now sits on. Same cat, start to finish. That is what a personalized cat rug should be: your cat, recognizably.

Getting a usable photo of a cat

Cats do not pose on request. The good news: a rug with your cat's photo needs one clear face, not a photo shoot.

  • Wait for the calm moment, after a meal or a nap, near a window with daylight.
  • Get down to their eye level instead of shooting from above.
  • Rustle a treat bag or a toy just above the lens for a second of eye contact.
  • Turn the flash off. It makes eyes glow and flattens the fur.
  • Use burst mode and pick the sharpest frame later.

Both eyes in focus matters more than a tidy background. More tips in our photo guide and in how to photograph your cat.

Markings, eye color and whiskers in the preview

Sample cat face portrait of a tabby in the Fluffsome illustrated style

Cat people recognize their cat by the details: the M on a tabby's forehead, a white chin, one orange patch, a tuxedo's slightly crooked bib. Your free preview is where you check all of them.

  • Markings. We follow the pattern in your photo. If a stripe or patch is missing, tell us, and send a second photo of that side if you have one.
  • Eye color. Indoor light can turn green eyes yellow or blue eyes gray in a photo. Write the real color in the special request note.
  • Whiskers. They are fine and easy to lose. Want them bolder or softer? Just ask.

Black and very dark cats look best from a well-lit photo, so we can see the shape of the face. Revisions are free and unlimited, and production starts only after you approve.

Which size for a cat?

24 in (61 cm)

The classic cat size. Room for one cat to curl up, by a window, a sofa or the food bowl.

32 in (81 cm)

For big cats who sprawl, long-haired cats who take up more room than they admit, or two pets.

40 in (102 cm)

A living-room centerpiece, or a shared rug for a cat and a large dog.

Measurements and care are on our size and care page.

A cat and a dog on one rug

Custom rug with a border collie mix and a tuxedo cat portrayed together

Murph and Jim, one border collie mix and one tuxedo cat, share this one. Two pets on one rug is possible: send a photo of each and mention it in the special request note when you order.

The photos can be separate. Nobody has to sit still next to anybody. For two pets, the 32 in (81 cm) or 40 in (102 cm) size gives each face enough room. Only dogs at home? See our custom dog rug page.

A memorial rug for a cat

If your cat has died, a portrait rug can keep their favorite spot from feeling empty. We handle these orders gently. An older or imperfect photo can still work, and the free preview shows you the result before anything is made. Read more about a memorial pet rug.

Questions

Will my cat actually use it?

Some cats claim it on day one. Others ignore it for a week to make a point. Putting it in a spot they already like, such as a sunny patch or next to their bowl, usually helps.

Can my cat scratch it?

It is made for everyday life with pets, and the non-slip backing keeps it in place. Like any rug, it is not a scratching post, so keep one nearby.

How do I get cat hair off it?

Vacuum it regularly. For spots, use cool water and mild soap, then let it air-dry flat. No bleach, no ironing, no hot dryer.

Can you match my cat's markings and eye color exactly?

That is the point of the preview. If anything looks off, tell us and we revise it, as many times as needed.
